In brief: IMF reminds Argentina of debt obligations

* The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has stated that a “strong implementation and ownership” of Argentina’s IMF-supported debt programme is “critical” to safeguard stability and address lingering macroeconomic imbalances in the country. In a Western Hemisphere regional economic outlook report, the IMF stated that Argentina’s real GDP is projected to contract by 2.5% in 2023 on account of the severe drought that has afflicted the country this year. The IMF added that inflation is projected to average 122% in 2023, “although this will depend on the evolution of the exchange rate passthrough and the degree of policy tightening”.
