* Brazil’s labour ministry has released the latest figures from the national employment registry (Novo Caged) which showed that a net 211,764 jobs were created in the formal sector in September, with 1.92m new hires and 1.71m dismissals. This net figure marks a decrease from the 278,054 jobs created in September 2022 and from the 220,844 created in August 2023. In September this year, the services sector saw the most net jobs created (98,206), corresponding to 46% of total jobs created. Information, communication, financial services, real estate, professional & administrative activities accounted for the largest share of the services sector job creation, with a net 41,724 jobs created. The sector which saw the lowest job creation in September was agriculture, with 5,942 new jobs created. In terms of regional variation, the states which saw the highest net increases were São Paulo (+47,306), Pernambuco (+18,864), and Rio de Janeiro (+7,998). The states with the lowest net job creation in September were in Brazil’s northern region: Amapá (+1,027); Roraima (+763); and Acre (+360).
