* Brazil’s Environment Minister Marina Silva has announced that the government of Norway will donate R$250m (US$50m) to the Amazon Fund, Brazil’s financing mechanism for rainforest conservation initiatives, which was first created in 2008. According to a Brazilian government press release, Norway contributed around R$3bn to the Amazon Fund from 2009-2018. The latest Norwegian donation was announced at the United Nations climate conference in the United Arab Emirates (COP28), where Silva has been discussing climate financing with international partners, including the UK government, which announced on 2 December a donation of R$215m to the Amazon Fund.
