*Paraguay’s foreign ministry has announced the launch of ‘Forest4Life Paraguay’, a collaborative project with the European Union (EU) that will support the preservation of protected areas in Paraguay and strengthen capacities to prevent and combat forest fires. The project, with a €12m (US$12.9m) investment from the EU, spans five years and focusses on: providing technical assistance for the economy & sustainable development ministry (Mades) and national forestry institute (Infona); supporting the consolidation of three protected areas; and promoting sustainable productive activities in buffer zones. Paraguay’s foreign minister, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, highlighted the project’s significance in showcasing Paraguay’s ecological and forestry potential through the “joint work of Paraguayan institutions with the private sector, civil society, and the production sector.” The EU ambassador to Paraguay, Javier García de Viedma, also discussed the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability, stressing the positive economic impact of conserving ecosystems.
