In brief: Mexico’s gov't expects busy winter holiday season

* Mexico’s Tourism Minister Miguel Torruco Marqués has announced that Mexico will see 36.5m tourists, including both national and international visitors, this holiday season, which runs from 16 December until 7 January 2024. Torruco stated that tourism is expected to generate M$213.9bn (US$12.38bn) during this period. For this holiday season, hotel occupancy is expected to be 56.1%, with occupancy forecast to be at 83.8% in holiday resort Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco state; 82.6% in the Riviera Maya tourist belt, in Quintana Roo; 81.1% in the resort city of Cancún, also in Quintana Roo; 80.6% in the resort area of Los Cabos, Baja California Sur; 71.6% in the Veracruz-Boca del Río area, Veracruz state; 70% in the city of Mérida, Yucatán; and 61% in Mexico City (CDMX).
