Few new faces in PJ's cabinet; CLARKE IS BROUGHT BACK, DAVIES IN WITHOUT PORTFOLIO
There were only two new incorporations to Prime Minister Percival Patterson's cabinet, and of these one is returning after a 15-month absence.
Horace Clarke had been Michael Manley's mining & energy minister until he was forced to resign as a result of the scandal over a duty waiver granted to Shell (which also cost Patterson his post at the time).
He has been appointed to the newly created ministry of water & transport. The other addition is Omar Davies, director-general of the Planning Institute of Jamaica, appointed minister without portfolio.
Otherwise there has been some shuffling and reorganisation of portfolios (see box). Still pending is the appointment of a sports minister.
As expected, Patterson kept Huge Small on as finance minister -- and also retained Portia Simpson, who had challenged him for the leadership of the ruling party.
