PERU: Gov’t removes police support for anti-corruption unit

BRAZIL: Gov’t launches new flood relief measures
On 9 May Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva decreed a package of measures which will provide R$50.9bn (US$9.9bn) in funding to address the heavy storms and severe floods which have been afflicting the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul state over the past two weeks.

PANAMA: Mulino pledges Darién Gap deportations
On 9 May Panama’s president-elect José Raúl Mulino, of the right-wing Realizando Metas (RM), pledged to deport migrants who seek to enter the country through the Darién Gap, the perilous jungle border with Colombia, which serves as a key corridor for migrants seeking to reach the US.

MEXICO: López Obrador rejects DEA visa complaints
On 9 May Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated that US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Administrator Anne Milgram had “exaggerated” in saying that Mexico had been delaying visas for DEA agents.
