EL SALVADOR: Hándal sharpens political divide

If anyone thought that the days of Schafik Hándal were numbered they would have been mistaken. Despite the crushing defeat of the hardline communist leader of the left-wing opposition Frente Farabundo Marti para la Liberacion Nacional (FMLN) at the hands of the candidate for the ruling Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena) Tony Saca on 21 March, Hándal remains a major player.
