BRAZIL-PARAGUAY: Brazil’s intelligence agency hit by another scandal

Brazilian news website UOL reported on 31 March that the country’s intelligence agency (Abin) had spied on Paraguayan officials from 2022-2023. The revelations have sparked diplomatic tensions, prompting Paraguay’s foreign minister Rubén Ramírez to announce on 1 April that Paraguay will suspend bilateral negotiations to revise parts of the treaty that established the two countries’ ownership of the binational Itaipú hydroelectric dam.
