VENEZUELA: Public sector pays price for electricity shortages

Venezuela’s electricity ministry announced on 24 March that for a period of six weeks, public sector workers would have a reduced working day of 8am-12.30pm, with exceptions for those in essential roles. The same workers were also placed on a 1:1 ratio of working to non-working days, for the same timeframe. This is due to ongoing electricity shortages caused by low water levels at hydroelectric power stations.
