BOLIVIA: Fuel shortages take their toll

Bolivia continues to struggle with petrol fuel shortages, with the government of President Luis Arce citing low reserves of hard currency as the primary obstacle to increasing imports to meet demand. The country imports 86% of its diesel and 56% of petrol, according to figures cited by Arce in June last year, with generous fuel subsidies further increasing the cost for the government. Various economic sectors are now warning that the shortages are impacting production.
