MEXICO: World Bank prescribes policies for poverty reduction

Mexico’s poverty rate has fallen dramatically since the turn of the century. About half of the population was living in poverty in 2000, compared to well under a quarter today, according to World Bank calculations. Even so, Mexico has a much higher poverty rate than comparable countries, mostly due to much slower economic growth. There is also much more to be done to eradicate extreme poverty.
