MEXICO: Teachers’ protests politicised

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has accused teachers affiliated with the influential Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) teachers’ union of planning to boycott the upcoming judicial elections. The comments are a sign that Sheinbaum is losing patience with the teachers, who have been staging a national strike and protest action since 15 May, and who have rejected recent government measures aimed at improving the situation for teachers as insufficient.
