BRAZIL: Lula plugs opportunities for trade and climate cooperation

Having hosted France’s President Emmanuel Macron in Brazil last year, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited France from 4-9 June. This year, Lula hoped that the protectionist stance of the US might push European allies to boost trade with other partners such as Brazil. However, Macron was still unwilling to back the proposed trade deal between the European Union (EU) and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).
