As Venezuela holds its third major election since mid-2024 the number of political prisoners remains high. With municipal elections coming up on 27 July, following the regional election held on 25 May and the presidential polls held last year on 28 July, opposition political parties have repeatedly called for the release of political prisoners and have just as repeatedly been completely ignored by the authorities.
