BOLIVIA: Roadblocks paused in respite for Arce

The roadblocks which had paralysed much of Bolivia since the start of the month were suspended on 15 June, providing an opportunity to cool the increasingly violent dispute between supporters of President Luis Arce and former president Evo Morales (2006-2019). Any respite for the government is likely to be short-lived. Nevertheless, the pausing of the roadblocks came as grassroots organisations aligned with Morales appeared to acknowledge that tensions have climbed too high, with six people killed at the barricades over the previous week.
