The surge in sales of Chinese EVs in Brazil is triggering a strategic re-think among some of the incumbent industry players. In June GM announced the launch of a range of new EVs and hybrids on the local market including four electric Cadillacs (Optic, Lyric, Vistiq, and Escalade) a hybrid Corvette and an electric Sierra pick-up. Fabio Rua, GM vice president for Latin America, said the launches were creating a “new GM”. Henceforth the company would seek to offer its Brazilian customers “the best GM models in both the United States and China, to strengthen the Chevrolet brand”.
