Brazil faces labour trouble at Camaçarí

One of the big issues (which as explained below also applies in Mexico) is whether, where, and when the new generation of EV manufacturers will build local plants in Latin America. The decision is complex not least because trade and tariff policies have been in flux as the Trump administration in the United States moves to take a much more protectionist stance. Trying to revive car production in the United States has been at the centre of Trump’s MAGA ‘Make America Great Again’ agenda. Despite initial enthusiasm for building new car production assembly plants, some of the companies have put them on hold as they seek greater clarity on official policies.
