Following US President Donald Trump’s announcement on 9 July that a 50% tariff rate would be imposed on Brazilian imports from 1 August onwards, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has insisted that his government will seek to negotiate with the US, but has not ruled out the possibility of reciprocal tariffs or trade barriers.
