ARGENTINA: Governors form new political alliance

The governors of five provinces are seeking to break the prevailing political polarisation in Argentina with the launch of a new alliance, Un Grito Federal, to compete in the upcoming mid-term federal congressional elections on 26 October. President Javier Milei has sought to squeeze out the centre, billing these elections as a straight shootout between his far-right La Libertad Avanza (LLA) and the left-wing Kirchnerista faction of the main opposition Partido Justicialista (PJ, Peronist), with an important dress rehearsal on 7 September when the LLA will seek to wrest control of the Buenos Aires provincial legislature from the PJ in legislative elections.
