BRAZIL: Lula pushes for regional cooperation

The promotion of pan-Latin American cooperation and integration has been a pillar of Brazilian foreign policy under President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. A summit of the eight Amazonian countries on 22 August in Colombia offered the Lula administration a chance to further this objective. A visit to Mexico on 27-28 August by Vice President Geraldo Alckmin served a similar purpose.
