The five-member ‘Primeira Turma’ (First Chamber) of the supreme court (STF) held the first sessions on 2-3 September for the most anticipated trial in Brazil this year, that of former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023). He and some of his close allies stand accused of plotting a coup to help him stay in power after losing the 2022 presidential election.
