Chile’s eight presidential candidates took part in the first televised presidential debate on 10 September. The debate focused on issues that top the list of public concerns, such as proposals for tackling violence and crime, irregular migration, and unemployment. Jeannette Jara, the candidate for the ruling left-wing coalition, came under fire from most of her rivals, especially José Antonio Kast of the far-right Partido Republicano (PR).
