CHILE: Choosing between a communist and a right-wing populist

Chile’s already divisive political landscape has become even more polarised before the first round of presidential elections on 16 November, heightening the possibility of far-reaching changes to economic policy in one of South America’s most developed countries. With the official campaigning period kicking off on 18 August, moderate centre-left and centre-right options have given way to more radical positions, leaving a communist and a right-wing populist ahead in what is set to be a neck-and-neck race.
