Thousands of people took to the streets in major cities around Brazil on 21 September to criticise controversial pieces of legislation under review in congress, including a bill that proposes amnesty for the far-right rioters who stormed the seats of government in Brasília on 8 January 2023. The amnesty bill is considered one of the potential ways for former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) to overturn his recent conviction or have his sentence reduced.
