COLOMBIA: US forces scaling down UN verification mission
The United Nations (UN) Verification Mission in Colombia, which is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the 2016 peace accords with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrilla group, was scaled back during a vote in the UN Security Council on 31 October. This was a direct consequence of the tensions which have surged between President Gustavo Petro and Washington.
