BRAZIL: Government promises aid for Minas Gerais

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva travelled to the south-eastern state of Minas Gerais on 28 February to visit areas affected by heavy rains that had been battering the state over the previous week. The government committee travelling with Lula compared the climate-related disaster in Minas Gerais to the heavy rains and floods that devastated the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul in 2024 and pledged to utilise the lessons learned from that crisis in the current relief and reconstruction efforts.
