Days after his appointment last week as Argentina’s new justice minister, Juan Bautista Mahiques has announced plans to appoint 200 new judges. Mahiques replaces Mariano Cúneo Libarona who served for two years. No specific public reason was given for the change, but it is known that the incumbent had wanted to step down for some time, and his departure was on friendly terms with President Javier Milei, who thanked him for “over two years of tireless work”.
