In brief: Inflation rises in Uruguay

*Uruguay’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the official inflation figures for April, putting monthly inflation at 0.54% and annual inflation at 3.16%. The monthly rate for April is up from 0.41% in March, while the annual rate is up from 2.94%. Of the 13 categories of products and services measured by the INE, 11 saw monthly price rises in April 2026. The greatest monthly increases were registered in transport (+2.98%), clothing and footwear (+1.88%), personal care and various goods (0.74%), and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (+0.66%). The two categories that registered monthly deflation were alcoholic drinks and tobacco (-0.10%) and recreation and culture (-0.23%).
