ARGENTINA: Milei embraces Adorni while demoting him
Argentina’s President Javier Milei is sticking by his cabinet chief, Manuel Adorni, amid a mushrooming illicit enrichment scandal. That is the official message. Milei made it clear with a symbolic gesture on the stage for the Día de la Bandera national flag day on 20 June by embracing his embattled cabinet chief. While it was important for Milei to preserve the outward appearance of being indifferent to the political impact of the scandal, a day earlier he opted to replace Adorni as presidential spokesperson, a decision whose significance he downplayed but which indicated his awareness that keeping him on as the face of his government was no longer tenable.
