BRAZIL: Flávio Bolsonaro warns US against new tariffs
The main right-wing contender in the presidential election in October, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (Partido Liberal, PL), has ramped up his efforts to convince the US not to impose more tariffs on Brazil. When the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) announced in early June a proposal to apply more tariffs due to claims that Brazil was carrying out unfair trade practices, the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sought to blame the far-right ‘Bolsonarismo’ movement for the new tariff threat, an accusation which Bolsonaro is trying to dispel.
