MEXICO: Top university embroiled in cheating scandal
Mexico’s top university, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Unam), has been plagued by controversy following widespread cheating on its entrance exam. Some 160,000 aspiring students took the exam, which was administered online for the first time. However, higher-than-usual scores sparked suspicions of irregularities, causing the university to nullify the results and call for new, in-person exams to take place instead. The episode has threatened to tarnish the reputation of the prestigious university and has seen legal action filed against those suspected of helping students to cheat, and those disgruntled by the university’s handling of the matter.
