ARGENTINA: Milei takes Falklands dispute to global stage
The Falkland Islands (Malvinas) dispute dominated President Javier Milei’s address at the annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this week. Facing dwindling popularity at home, Milei has opted to revive Argentina’s longstanding sovereignty claim in recent weeks. Although he denies any causal link, his previous speeches at the UNGA have barely touched on the Falklands, whereas he devoted a significant part of his address on 23 September to launching a lengthy defence of his country’s position.
