The spying scandal involving the mayor of the city of Buenos Aires
and prominent opposition leader, Mauricio Macri, took a new turn on 15 July when
a federal court ratified Judge Norberto Oyarbide's decision to prosecute him for
the establishment of an “illegal association" dedicated to unlawful espionage.
From a legal standpoint the ruling does not jeopardise his current position in
the city's government - at least for now - but the proceedings may have an
effect on the final stretch of his administration and, more notably, on Macri's
