VENEZUELA: Extent of pro-Chávez victory becomes apparent
The extent of the pro-Chávez camp's victory in the 31 October elections is now plain to see. They more than doubled their control of municipal governments and may have ended up with 20 of the 22 state governorships, plus the chief mayoralty of Caracas, which has gubernatorial status. Opposition leaders, meanwhile, are proclaiming the demise of the umbrella Coordinadora Democrática and disputing who inherits its mantle.
