COLOMBIA-VENEZUELA: Split looms over crossborder snatch of Farc leader

Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez has all but severed diplomatic relations with Colombia after a most unclear episode in which it transpired that the Colombian government had engineered the kidnapping in Caracas of a prominent leader of the Farc guerrillas and his transport across the border [WR-05-01]. Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, after initially insisting that the capture had taken place within Colombia, admitted that a 'reward' had been paid for information leading to the arrest.
