ECUADOR: New supreme court chief elbowed out

The man who admitted to having been chosen personally by President Lucio Gutiérrez to head the supreme court that emerged from the questionable December vote in congress [WR-04-49] resigned last week - apparently after having taken his job too earnestly. He appears to have been pressured out so as to help clear the way for the return of exiled former president Abdalá Bucaram.
