GUATEMALA | Remittances could top US$3bn. Remittances by expatriates could exceed US$3bn this year, which would take them more than 18% above last year's total and almost double the level recorded in 2002. In April remittances reached US$253.08m, taking the accumulated total since the beginning of the year to US$912.8m. A straight projection would fall below the US$3bn target, but the amounts have been increasing steadily month by month.
