CHILE: Growth improving but still slow

Chile's central bank announced that the economy grew 3.0% year-on-year in June, above market forecasts for a 2.6% expansion and the 2.5% growth seen in May. However, the bank's Imacec economic activity index, which is closely linked to GDP, grew just 2.7% year-on-year in the second quarter against the 3.5% expansion seen in Q1, and it appears that Chile's economy is still not recovering as fast as the government would like.
