ECUADOR: Indigenous protests break out in Quito

Hundreds of indigenous people descended on Quito yesterday to protest against the policies of President Lucio Gutiérrez, who recently expelled the indigenous group Movimiento Pachakutik from his ruling coalition. Conducted by the Federación Ecuatoriana de Indí­genas Evangélicos, this was the first of a week's worth of anti-government demonstrations.
