PERU: Vice President corruption scandal deepens

Investigations into alleged corrupt behaviour by first Vice President Raúl Diez Canseco are set to continue after a congressional committee voted that there was substance to the accusations. The investigating committee concluded that Diez had used his former position as minister of trade and tourism to benefit the family of his girlfriend, Luciana de la Fuente. The case is likely to further embarrass President Alejandro Toledo, who was elected on a tough anti-corruption ticket.
