MEXICO-US: Agreement vs apprehension on the border
North of the Rio Grande the big positive event of the week was the 13 October meeting of US Attorney-General Alberto Gonzales and Mexican chief federal prosecutor Daniel Cabeza de Vaca, who came together to hammer out a joint response to criminal violence along the common border. South of the Río Bravo (same river, different name) the big related event which provoked apprehension was the 14 October announcement of a state-level security drive by the governor of Texas.
