NICARAGUA: Ortega blindsides the PLC - and the US
Daniel Ortega's surprise rapprochement with President Enrique Bolaños [WR-05-40] has blindsided both his former pact partners of the Partido Liberal Constitucionalista (PLC) and the US. By 19 October, barring an unforeseen upset, the political crisis in Nicaragua will practically be over, with Bolaños guaranteed the opportunity to complete his mandate unchecked by the constitutional reforms introduced this year by the national assembly.
