GUATEMALA: Faith in parties is at rock bottom

Political parties have lost credibility in much of Latin America but probably nowhere as dramatically as in Guatemala, where 84.3% say they do not sympathise with any of the existing parties. The two that attract most sympathy are the opposition Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza (5.7%) and the ruling Gran Alianza (4.2%) - a devastating verdict for a government elected in 2003 having mustered 34.3% of the vote in the first round.
