MEXICO: Madrazo moves to purge PRI of dissenters
Confirmed as the PRI's presidential candidate, Roberto Madrazo has launched a purge of party members who openly oppose him, starting with the former secretary-general Elba Esther Gordillo who has been suspended and is now facing expulsion. This is likely to precipitate the threatened split in the ranks of the PRI, though enough members got the message and flocked to sign a 'pact of unity' last weekend.
