MEXICO-US: Life sentences no longer a bar to extradition

A supreme court ruling has opened the doors for the extradition of people who might face life imprisonment abroad, previously shielded by a 2001 decision which has been invoked by a number of suspected drug traffickers sought by the US. The court has reinterpreted a ban on granting extradition to any country imposing penalties not envisaged in Mexico's penal code.
