EL SALVADOR: Saca proposes life imprisonment

President Elí­as Antonio Saca did not wait long after surviving an alleged assassination attempt to come up with tougher measures to crackdown on organised crime. Last week he called for the introduction of life sentencing, which would require amending article 25 of the constitution. He said he did not advocate the introduction of the death penalty.
