The political opposition is courting international support for a campaign against the decision by President Hugo Chávez not to renew the broadcast licence of the private television station, RCTV, when it expires on 27 May. Buoyed by criticism of the move from abroad, the opposition staged a protest march in Caracas on 21 April and is planning several more in the coming weeks. Manuel Rosales, the governor of Zulia and leader of the opposition party Un Nuevo Tiempo, appended the RCTV issue to a longer list of complaints against "the democratic deficit" in Venezuela, which he presented at the OAS headquarters in
Caracas.
