BRAZIL: Lula cosies up to opposition

President Lula da Silva is attempting to win over the opposition following his successful efforts to stitch up a governing coalition of 11 parties. Last week he met with several important opposition figures; and it seems his talking is working. His Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT), however, is clearly not taking pleasure in this, especially as the party already has one eye on the next two electoral contests: the race for municipal governments in 2008 and the presidential elections in 2010.
