BRAZIL: Growing strong

Brazil's GDP expanded 0.8% quarter-on-quarter between April and June, according to official statistics released last week. In comparison with the second quarter of last year, Brazil's GDP was up 5.4%. Significantly, Brazil's accumulated GDP growth rate stood at 4.8% in the 12-month period from July 2006, very close to the government's 5% target. Market analysts forecast the economy will expand 4.7% this year, one percentage point above the 3.7% growth registered last year.
